Fingers hold my ankles fast
Ripply faces looking down
Just beneath the water line--
Not drowning this time.
Hands aloft claw the sky
Gurgling screams silent bound
Water starts rushing in--
Not drowning this time.
Shadows push back the light
Only one thought remaining
Water wants the last breath--
Not drowning this time.
Limp legs stand no more
Sinking down once again
Water's not my friend--
Not drowning this time.
I know because, like with Peter
Stretching out His hand
The Living Water will catch me--
Not drowning this time.
Amen.
