God has stood long at the
gates
by which all people come and go,
even the most mighty of kings,
Saying: Hear the word of
the Lord!
Some have stopped and lent
an ear,
but most have stiffened their necks
as if passing by a pauper there.
There will soon come a day
when
many will ask: where is God's word?
and say: let it come now!
Blessed is the man who plants
his hope,
who spreads his roots nearest
the Fountain of Living Waters.
