For lack of rising wax vapor,
a candle wick cannot remain aflame.
For lack of dried forest
floors,
wildfires cannot burn out of control.
Likewise, for lack of a whisperer,
a rumor cannot grow wings to fly.
And for lack of a bearer
of tales,
strife and quarrel cannot hope to ignite.
We must on guard constantly
be,
against donning this sinful garment.
And as frequently laying
it aside,
hanging it in the dark where it belongs.
For slander wears many a
dark garment:
"I heard from a friend who heard from a friend"
"I can stretch the truth from time to time"
"I could have left out a detail or three"
"I didn't mean to lead you to believe that"
"I may have suggested it was worse than it was"
"I think he looks guilty. Look how he's dressed"
"I don't believe in giving the benefit of the doubt"...
Only the light of Truth is
worth wearing,
no matter the time of day or night.
It's where all real fires
truly start;
ones that always burn in the heart
that races after God's.
