It is said, once upon a
time?
the towering cedars
of
Lebanon,
Having found no king
within their stand,
Sought a king
among a grove of
olive
trees;
Finding none there
they sought a king
among
a row of fig
trees;
Finding none there
they sought a king
among
staked vines of
grapes;
And finding none there
they finally found
a king
among
many bushes of
thorns.
The one bush of thorns
told the cedars tall
to honor
their new king
By taking shelter in
the shade of his
brambles,
and when
they indeed did,
The king, as a bush of thorns,
entangled and strangled
and pierced
to the death
the once mighty trees.
Why is it, again, we seek
a king
among bushes,
vines or even
trees?
Does anyone care to explain?
Please!
