I am in search of the heart
that beats
in Jesus' chest,
So one could be made to
beat just like that
in my own.
Max Lucado¹
made a long detailed list
of how Jesus'
heart beat,
writing that it was, is and always will
be...
Forgiving,
Compassionate,
Listening,
God-Intoxicated,
Worship-Hungry,
Focused,
Honest,
Pure,
Hope-Filled,
Rejoicing,
And Enduring.
I love you Max, always have.
You're a great teacher and
writer.
But, couldn't we put it
a bit more simply?
Charles Spurgeon²
almost did it too
in a century-old
sermon,
when he beautifully spoke of Jesus
as being:
"Born in a broken heart."
'Born in a broken heart'
in order to
heal it by dying for it
so we could again live in one again.
That's more like it, Charles,
but while it's
no longer a list,
it's now twice as many words.
Maybe it was a lowly tax
collector
who recorded
it best when He quoted
Jesus testifying of His heart himself:
"I am gentle and humble
of heart."
What is that Jesus said?
Put most simply...I Am.
Matthew 11:29, "...take My
yoke upon you
and learn from Me, for I
am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
