There is no pain greater
than to be
abandoned, even
for just a moment or so, as our
Eternal Rest does also surely know:
"My God, My God, why
have You forsaken
me?"
His momentary separation
from His holy
Father and God
was for our eternal good, as His
cry aloud left sin on deadly wood;
"Father, forgive them, for
they know not
what they do!"
Apart from God's, is that
our
only earthly
savings' grace? We
just didn't know we claimed others
to be less than human, a commodity?
"A servant of servants they
be,"
and "merciless
savages they are."
When people are perceived,
viewed so as
"us" and "them,"
the seed of hurting is set deep in
the furrows of disrespectful minds.
"Slaves are property, not
citizens,"
and "Kill the
Indian, save the man."
But the pain I so reference
is by no means
momentary, as
beneath the deep water's surface,
denial of the right to exist continues.
"America! In part or in
whole,
directly or
indirectly, there is no
greater pain than abandonment."
Ask those we have demonized.
Ask those we
have discriminated.
Ask those marginalized and excluded.
Ask those we falsely accused.
Ask those we
unfairly condemned.
Ask those we have so often attacked.
What shadows our hearts still
hide in?
What pains
we cause still so justified?
What pretzels our minds we still twist?
Don’t we really know any
better?
Where have
our hearts run off to?
So why do we hurt other people?
Where's our obedience to
God?
