Chewed to stubble,
savory shrubs,
festive flowers,
and holy herbs,
the king’s garden
came to no more...
When the Gardener
left the gate open
for the wily jackals
to enter in.
But in a pocket
He kept seeds
the hungry hounds
couldn't get at to eat,
Seeds of the King's garden,
of the lily they would be,
for the Gardner to plant
at an appointed later day,
When the time would come
for a rebirth of the Promised Land,
when the vine of Judah
would finally forever stand.
