From the town of Almost
Home,
located in any state I want
it to be,
I'm a Shagbark Hickory,
a slow growing to massive
tree,
whose bark always peels
away as
if it is always somehow
being set free,
but never, ever, quite completely.
I have a mind, though, to
some day
stand at last like the Tree
of Life in Glory
standing tall without limb
or leaf accursed,
all bark gone.
