I see bags under my eyes
when I look in a mirror.
God sees me who stayed up all night
with a sick friend.
I see lips that need lipstick
when I look in a mirror.
God sees a mouth that just kissed
a precious child goodnight.
I see a scar on my left cheek
when I look in a mirror.
God sees me who pruned a tree
a little too eagerly.
I see a chipped tooth
when I look in a mirror.
God sees me who bravely went first
on the carnival's tilt-a-whirl.
We see our imperfections
when we look in a mirror.
God sees us and
His heart skips a beat.
Wouldn't it be a ball
if we could see ourselves
In any of the mirrors hanging
on God's hallowed walls?
